A Change Is Coming

I have always found that art was very second-nature to me. Much like Matt Damon's character in "Goodwill Hunting," when he says, "Mozart just looked at a piano and it made sense to him - he could just play." When it comes to art, I can just play....doesn't matter the medium; I just choose to work in collage....or maybe collage chose me.

I am becoming more interested in taking existing/found images in magazines, etc and changing them into my own creations. I find it is entertaining, humorous, disturbing even ...taking images out of context. Is this a control issue? ....Maybe. I am intrigued by how quickly, playing with collage in this manner, I can create a very powerful image.

One of my friends had mentioned once that he could see 'periods' in my work ....my work has developed and is about to take it's most drastic turn as I embark on this journey into the depths of my capabilities as a collage artist.

I continue to dismiss the notion of having a mission statement to explain why I do what i do or what my focus is. I feel my most important contribution to the art world will be the style in which I work my collages.

impromptu collage assemblages creepy kitty and i've heard of not peeing in the pool but that's just ridiculous!! these are the first 2 stepping stones into the most drastic change I've introduced to my collaging style since I began to play with collage years ago.

My Art

When I set out to do a piece, I use primarily magazine paper...and even then only the magazines with the thicker glossy papers. I will sometimes use thinner magazine paper only in those instances when I am looking to create an effect where what's on the back of the paper is to purposely show through. I also look for colors that will blend seamlessly.

I have sold a few pieces to date....among them - Victorinox [purveyors of the world-famous Swiss Army knives].

Among the many artists past & present that influence my work are Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Mr. Brainwash & Jean-Michel Basquiat.
